Hi, all. I've been back in Sydney for about a week, and it's been great getting to see new and old friends who arrived while I was away. This city has become overrun with abroad kids, which is mostly a good thing because it means more people to meet. I'm not sure the Aussies love it, but I'm pretty much Australian at this point so they don't even think I'm an American abroad kid. Classes start next week, so this has been another free week.
A few days ago I did a surfing lesson. Here's my thoughts on that: it's fun and a great activity and workout, but if you aren't athletic it's probably not for you. So yeah it's probably not for me. I would've been happier just sitting on the sand. Most of my session was me laying on the board in the water, and the other half was me talking to our surf instructor. I wasn't terrible at it either, but I just got tired and lazy. It was a really cool and fun experience, but I truly regret to inform you all that you probably won't see me on the Team USA surf team next Olympics.
Now for the juicy details that everyone is waiting for... Last night I attended the Wuthering Heights premiere. If you aren't familiar, it's Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi's new movie. What an incredible experience. There was a sea of people waiting outside, and when we finally got in we were standing right next to Hailey Beiber. She was stonefaced and "not taking any pictures right now" per her four bodyguards, so we just stood there and told her she was pretty (she almost smiled) then walked away. We finally went into the movie theater to watch. My first question if I was reading this would be if there was food or not at this event, so if you are hungry like me I'll tell you. They gave us free wine, water, and popcorn, but we bought peanut mnms (how could we not). The movie itself was INCREDIBLE and I definitely want commit the cardinal sin and read the book now after seeing the movie. The movie was also probably really good because we knew we were watching it in the same room as the actors in it. Afterwards we were quickly ushered back out to the red carpet. I got a bit lost in a sea of people and ended up in a circle of some random people. As I was looking for Maggie I bumped into someone and said sorry and walked away. Then I actually woke up and realized the person I just bumped into was famous. Who was he??? Jared. Leto. Just standing there like a real person. So that rounded out my brief taste of fame. It was awesome.
Good things keep happening . Desperately trying to channel the fun and happiness into luck for a job this summer. Still looking! If anyone happens to read this and can give me a national security policy analysis job. Would love that. That's all for now. Next time I blog I'll probably have started school for real (shudder). Wish me luck!
