Monkeys, Elephants,... stomach bug. (Phuket and Koh Samui)

Hi there. Currently bed ridden. Stomach bug. I drank the water (I brushed my teeth with it). Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers not joking. Now let me rewind for you...

Since my best day ever (read last post if you care), we have had more best days! The rest of Phuket was really great. We saw the Phi Phi Islands, went to Phuket Town, shopped around, and enjoyed beautiful scenery and food. Everyone warned me that Phuket was a little grimy and gross, and while that is semi-true, I loved my time there. Part of this travel is going out of my comfort zone, and to be staying in a four star hotel while doing that really just makes you think you don't have a lot to complain about. And I don't. Now we're in Koh Samui, which is basically a cleaner and more upscale version of Phuket.

Today we saw elephants! It was such an amazing experience. You don't realize how strange elephants actually are until you're up close and personal with them. It was very surreal to be touching them and feeding them, and I know I won't forget about this. Later, we ventured to the Big Buddha. It was MASSIVE. And quite beautiful. A monk blessed us, and I'm going to need all the good juju I can get to get through this stomach bug/food poisoning/Thai tummy monster.

Being here has really taught me a lot, and I feel like I'm coming away from this a better and more experienced person. I'm learning that things rarely happen smoothly, instead it's the people handling problems that make it feel like that. And we had to learn to become those people. So many things have gone wrong (stomach. bug.) but I'm so so grateful for this experience. And my Insta post is about to be really good. Just a little bonus.

We all feel ready to go home to Sydney. Being away from there for so long has made the heart grow fonder. I didn't realize, but in the month we were there, we began to put down roots and become adjusted to this way of life. I know my future self is jealous. I don't have much to say in this post due to the bug in my stomach, but I just want to say that this is an unforgettable and life changing experience. I always said an Asia trip would be a one-and-done, but now I'm not so sure. Suddenly it feels more accessible, and I have so many more places I need to explore. For now, Thailand has done more than enough.
