Coffee tasting and beach day

Update!! It's officially been over a week since I've been here, which is pretty unbelievable.

Yesterday I went to a coffee tasting at a coffeeshop in Surry Hills. It was nice to walk around a new part of Sydney, and we got to try amazing coffee. The man who owned the cafe was so passionate about coffee and it was really nice to see someone so passionate about their work and their life. By the end it turned into more of an unexpected life lesson about doing what makes you happy. I love when that happens. I wasn't expecting to be so moved by a coffee tasting but I was! We learned that the dairy in Australia is the best in the world, and that people will pay $450 dollars for a cup of coffee. After the tasting we had lunch in a park and tried Lamington, which is an Australian cake made with raspberry, chocolate, and coconut. We went to the beach and came home early to get ready to go out. I went out the past two nights, and had a lot of fun. It really feels like the first two weeks of college, where everyone is kind of flying by the seat of their pants and pretending they aren't. We also got to see a few fourth year UVA students doing the J-term here, and it felt really nice to see a bit of home. It was a really crazy feeling to say, "see you at graduation!" But that's the reality!

Today I had a chill beach day because it was 100 degrees out, so we really couldn't do much but be soaking wet the entire day. So far Tamarama beach is my favorite, but Bondi is special. I can't stop eating sashimi and hand rolls. Is that dangerous? Like my raw fish intake may be getting to a concerning point. It's just too good to stop eating it and it's so available and so cheap that an addiction may be starting for me.

I feel like things are finally starting to fall into place. Tonight Maggie and I are staying in. We just cooked dinner which helps to make this place feel like we actually live here and aren't just visiting. I know there are more ups and downs to come, but I feel like I've been in a good place the past few days and I'm excited for this next week. Of course, my class hasn't started yet, so who knows how I'll feel when it finally does. There's a lot to look forward to.

That's all I have for now!
