Hi from Sydney!! It's only day two here, which is crazy because I left Baltimore on Monday and it is now Friday. The reason it's taken four days to be here is because our flight from Dulles was delayed four hours. After an anxiety-inducing six hours, Maggie and I had hope that we could still make our connection in San Francisco. We ran. Sprinted. Through the airport. And if you know me you know I don't sprint, so all I can say is that I was tasting blood when we finally got to the gate. And of course, the plane had departed. Haha. So then we were stuck in San Francisco until the next flight to Sydney the next day. Also, they told us they'd keep our luggage at the airport and send it through for us. We decided to make the best of it (we literally had no other choice). We spent the night in the airport hotel and woke up on Tuesday. We decided to be tourists and run around San Francisco. We went shopping, saw Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, saw the seals at Fisherman's Wharf, walked around Ghiradelli square, and tried In-n-out. I loved my day there so much and love San Francisco now, so we honestly didn't mind missing our flight.
Finally we got on the flight to Sydney, and remember how I said they'd check our bags for us? That was a joke and a lie because soon reality set in that our luggage didn't make it. As if our travel story could become more of a nightmare. We immediately went shopping AGAIN to get some essentials for the first night. Spoiler alert: Luggage still isn't here. We've resorted to washing our clothes in the sink. Besides from the luggage thing, our two days in Sydney have been really great. I love our little IES Abroad group and I'm so excited to meet more people and make more friends. I've already tried crocodile and kangaroo, so basically my new name is Steve Irwin. The truth is that I thought the crocodile was chicken. I was chomping on it and started to question why 1. the meat was so white and 2. why it kind of tasted like fish. Once I had already gotten over the crocodile hump, kangaroo felt like the natural second step. WRONG CHOICE! Save yourselves, don't try it. In other news, the beach is BEAUTIFUL and I can't really believe that people actually live here. It feels like paradise. And it's going to feel even MORE like paradise when I have clothes and shoes!!!!! Woohoo!
So far, abroad has been:
- Being really tired.
- Being really grateful.
- Shopping more than we probably should.
- Washing our underwear in the sink.
- Making new friends.

That's my update!
